This Week In Geek… 4/29/12

Syfy is going crazy for content. They are moving forward with a live-action adaptation of Booster Gold, as well as an adaptation of Charlaine Harris’ supernatural mystery novel Grave Sight and a movie/mini-series based off of Stephen King’s fantasy novel The Eyes of the Dragon.

Fans of Fringe should be happy to hear that it will return with 13 episodes for its fifth and final season.

On DC Nation, Young Justice starts season 2 with a bang! Five years after the side kicks versus the heroes, we are introduced to a bunch of new members of the team and the league (Blue Beetle, Tim Drake as the new Robin, Wonder Girl, Batgirl, Beast Boy, Bumblebee, Nightwing, Lagoon Boy, Captain Atom, and Green Lantern John Stewart). We are also introduced to the “Main Man”, Lobo, the intergalactic bounty hunter. Also on Green Lantern: The Animated Series, we are introduced to the Star Sapphire Lanterns.

On Marvel Universe, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spidey, Iron Fist and White Tiger face off against everyone’s favorite villain with photographic reflexes, Taskmaster. And on The Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes, Hank Pym’s Ant-Man suit was stolen and he acquires help from two new heroes Luke “Power Man” Cage and Iron Fist!

There weren’t many titles out this week that I usually read, but here are some.

  • DC – All Star Western #8, Flash #8 and Justice League Dark #8
  • Dark Horse – Goon #39, Angel and Faith #9 and Star Wars Blood Ties Boba Fett is Dead #1
  • Dynamite Entertainment – Vampirella The Red Room #1 and Game of Thrones #7,
  • IDW Publishing – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #9
  • Marvel – Astonishing X-Men #39, FF #17, Scarlet Spider #3 and Wolverine #305

Now that I look at it, there were quite a few.

Jessica Chastain and Guy Pierce have been casted in Iron Man 3, but we also learned that Scarlett Johansson will not be in this, which makes me very sad.

Mel Gibson is in talks to join Danny Trejo in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills.

New trailers for Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises are set to pop in theaters before The Avengers this weekend! I might not make it out of the theater after all the excitement!

The voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, may have spoiled the next DC Universe Animated Original Movie to be based on Flashpoint.

The Avengers ticket pre-sales are over 1 1/2-times that of these past Marvel films combined! Selling 3,995 percent more tickets than Captain America: The First Avenger,1,034 percent more than Thor, 114 percent more than Iron Man 2 and 1,406 percent more than Iron Man.

Last week, I mentioned that The Wolverine will be filmed in Australia. This week we learned that they will also be doing a lot of location work in Japan.

Fox is looking to bring more comics to the screens with New Mutants. For those that don’t know New Mutants are young heroes in training at The Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, similar to Young Justice and the Justice League.

In more Fox new, David James Kelly has been set to rewrite the script for David Slade’s Daredevil, which will be based on Frank Millar and David Mazzucchelli’s “Born Again” arc.

To finish off this week in geek, here are some posters from the upcoming Expendables 2 starring Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture and Arnold Schwarzenneger in theaters August 17th.
