#GeekApproved Presents: Once upon a time… “Yeahhhhhhhhhhh Buddddddddddddy!!! Productions” was born…..

Ever since YouTube became a huge thing, Everyone wants to be YouTube famous. Whether it’s music, movies, or customer service reviews on products or a million different other topics. There is one part in particular I would like to talk about and that is action figures. I’m a part of a genre that is taking YouTube to a different level along with many great pioneers, and that is the toy review industry. Today’s nerd notation will be on “How to become an action figure reviewer”, and how I came up with the production company “Yeahhh Budddy!” as seen in all my reviews. So with that being said here are the steps that you should follow, or at least the guidelines that I set for myself:

#GeekApproved Presents: Attention Sharting may cause Long inspiration!

They say everything has a reason for happening the way it does, and I’ve been a true believer of that my entire life. I’ve always been a lover of all things toy related. When I was asked by the pod father (and my brother) himself to join the Inner City Geeks and do YouTube reviews, I wasn’t only honored but a world of mixed emotions that followed. “How do I go about this?” I kept asking myself. I had no idea on how to do this.
One day when I was home I put YouTube on and googled a figure review. I had watched toy review videos before but not religiously and definitely not as homework. I remembered two figure reviewers by their names. They were Sean Long and Shartimus Prime. I thought these guys had a ton of energy and I was hooked. These guys were pioneers to the industry! These guys showed you from a real perspective on whether or not something wasn’t worth buying. I knew from there that that’s how I wanted to be, however without copying them completely.

#GeekApproved Presents: The “Yes!”movement has spoken… Universal Team Hell No!!!

daniel__bryan_yes_To all my fellow geeks, brothers and ICGPW Slamcast listeners/followers,

I just wanted to take time out and be serious for a moment and I want to share my thoughts on the the unfortunate early retirement of Bryan Danielson or “Daniel Bryan” as he is known in WWE.

The first time that I noticed Daniel Bryan was on Monday Night Raw on June 7th 2010 when he choked out then ring announcer Justin Roberts. WWE didn’t like that very much as they fired him right after. Being a fan of his immediately after that I thought to myself “I hope that was a work!” Whether or not it was or wasn’t will still remain unclear(I believe it was real, however I lean more toward work since he had ROH dates to fill at the time). After he was rehired by WWE (Or brought back after the ROH dates were fulfilled) I was happy to see him and was hoping they gave him a push! My favorite Daniel Bryan moments will forever be as follows:

Something For Your Earholes – Soapbox Army – Maps

by: Charley (@ruperto2106)

Maps, the new EP from NYC based band was released on Tuesday, September 23 to great anticipation as our last conversation with lead singer and guitarist Dan Tucker and drummer Simon Fishburn (Episode 76 of the InnerCityGeeks Podcast) left us wanting more and wondering when we would be able to hear these new tunes.

Well now we know why we had to wait. It takes time and patience to create a masterpiece. That’s exactly what we have here. Each of the 4 songs on this EP is a work of musical art in its own right. Each track is a bonafide hit. Maps also makes the bands first recording with their current line-up and first recording with new bassist Matt Basile. It’s this new lineup that gives the band the best sounding and best music released to date. Continue reading

Something For Your Earholes – The Gaslight Anthem – Get Hurt

Gaslight_Anthem_Get_HurtAbout a month ago, I heard the news that The Gaslight Anthem was releasing a brand new album titled Get Hurt when they released the video for lead single “Rollin’ and Tumblin”. I was instantly hooked and greatly anticipated the release. This New Jersey rock band has released some great records and the past and I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed with this new release. Something For Your Earholes – Mastodon – “Once More ‘Round The Sun”

I’m old. I’m one of those old farts that has seen tons of shows in places that don’t exist anymore. I have heard and seen so many heavy metal bands come and go. Some were great and burned out fast (any band out of New York from the 2000’s). Some are still around and have lost their ways musically and are just not the same great bands they used to be (Metallica, Megadeth). Some were just awful to begin with (Coheed & Cambria and their ridiculously afroed singer). You also have the rare bands that started great and stayed great. For me, the band that personifies that “start great, stay great” mentality is Mastodon.

Mastodon is one of those bands that came out of nowhere right around the beginning of the new century. They took their Southern rock (Creedence, The Eagles, Black Crowes) influence and mixed it with their version of prog rock (think Rush but good.) and brought a new sound to metal that was part thrash metal, part stoner rock and all awesome.  From their first ep, Lifesblood released in 2000, until now with, Once More, Mastodon has consistently created some amazing heavy metal music. They are one of the few bands, I think, that have yet to release a bad album. That’s unheard of now in heavy metal. They are so good that after I was first introduced to them from listening to their second album, Leviathan, a concept album based on Moby Dick, I went and read Moby Dick again. They are that good. Something For Your Earholes – Cover Songs!!!

by: Charley (@ruperto2106)

We all have our favorite songs.  However, what happens when that song is done by another artist or band? Do they do the original song and artist/band justice? Or do they just make a mockery of it? Some covers are truly unique and better than the original. Some sound exactly the same. I have given it some thought about my favorite cover songs and here it is! Continue reading

Something For Your Earholes – Linkin Park – The Hunting Party

by: Charley (@ruperto2106)

So, Linkin Park’s new album dropped this Tuesday (6/17) and like most fans when they heard that a new LP album was coming out, it was met with a collective “Eh”. Their last two albums, A Thousand Suns (which may as well have been called A Thousand Craps) and Living Things were downright garbage (no insult to Shirley Manson intended). That was not the Linkin Park that many fans remembered. The one glimmer of hope that LP would make at least a half way decent album again was when Stone Temple Pilots announced they kicked out Scott Weiland and introduced Chester Bennington as the new lead singer and released an EP of new songs. Chester fit in perfectly and it was a seamless transition. It left me wondering that maybe LP could remember how to rock.

So, I went to my local Best Buy on Tuesday and picked up the The Hunting Party by Linkin Park. I figured that if I’m going back into this music reviewing thing that I ought to give the band another shot. Continue reading

Something For Your Earholes – O.A.R – The Rockville LP

by: Charley (@ruperto2106)

The Rockville LP, the eighth studio album from Rockville, Maryland band Of A Revolution (or O.A.R as they are better known) was released on June 10th.

In this album the band brings back familiar sounds from the previous albums (reggae, pop, jazz, rock) and uses them to bring in a masterful modern sound that they have perfected. Continue reading
